The lip lift is an amazing procedure that restores the natural height and proportions of the upper lip. While often overlooked, this simple procedure can enhance the whole area around the mouth, and restore a youthful appearance to the lips.
Why a lip lift?
- The lip lift is a quick, in office procedure, which has a dramatic impact on the lower third of the face and area around the mouth.
- By restoring the natural lip height and shape, a lip lift creates youthful looking lips without the need to add significant lip volume.
- By recreating the natural upper lip height and shape, the lip lift gives you the ability to restore a youthful look in a way that non-surgical procedures can not replicate.- When used in conjunction with lower face procedures like the deep plane facelift, the lip lift can enhance the results of the other procedures.
Know before you go
Although a lip lift is a quick, in-office procedure, it can be daunting to consider surgical correction to the lip area. This is why we have worked hard to create a patient experience that focuses heavily on patient education and support. After inquiring you should expect:
- A phone consultation with Erin, our patient care coordinator specialist. During this consultation she will learn more about you and your areas of concern. She will review your options in detail, including technique, downtime, and costs. Together you will decide if we feel like a good fit, and assuming we do, she will schedule you for an in person consultation.
- Your in person consultation will include an extensive discussion about lip aging, lip aesthetics, and the lip lift procedure. We will review your unique needs and together create the perfect plan for you.
- We try to make scheduling as easy as possible and will work with you to secure a date which fits your needs. A 20% fully refundable deposit is all that is needed to secure your ideal date.
- We always meet one additional time before surgery for a pre-operative visit. We go over the post-operative course again in detail. You will be given a post-operative care kit containing everything you will need for your post-surgical care. We will take pre-operative photographs and go through all the surgical consents. We utilize this time to make sure you are 100% prepared for your surgical journey.
Post Surgical Course
The lip lift is a quick, well tolerated procedure. Some expectations for the immediate postoperative course are:
- The downtime is typically around one week for most patients. After this time the average person should have no idea that you had anything done.
- There is very little discomfort after a lip lift and our patients use non-narcotic pain control alone (Tylenol and Ibuprofen). It would be extremely unlikely to require stronger pain medication.
- We closely follow all of our patients through their post-surgical course. Typically we see lip lift patients at 1 week, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after surgery. During each of these visits we are carefully inspecting all aspects of the surgery and ensure the best possible results. We also include laser resurfacing of the scar at 6 weeks and 3 months to create the most perfect scar possible.
A lip lift aims to restore the natural position and shape of the lips. It does so without increasing the volume of the lips. Oftentimes though, the lips will look more full since more of the pink lip will show.
Many patients are a little nervous about in-office procedures. The area is first numed using a local numbing medicine similar to what is used at the dentist. This medicine stings a little when going in, but everything becomes numb in a few seconds thereafter.
A lip lift will restore the natural position and shape of the lips whereas lip filler will not. Filler can still be used however if you desire more volume to the lips. They can often be complementary to one another.
A well done lip lift will result in a very thin scar that runs directly along the base of the nose. It is a very well hidden scar that is difficult to see. We also laser out lip lift scars twice to ensure they are as perfect as possible.
