While some patients require deeper neck treatments to create their desired neck contour, some patients only require liposuction of the surface neck fat to create a beautiful neckline. This can be a quick in office procedure with limited downtime.
Is Liposuction right for me?
- Some patients have isolated fullness in the fat directly under the skin. The easiest and most direct way to address this is with neck liposuction.
- Neck liposuction is a great alternative to non-surgical techniques aimed at reducing the subcutaneous neck fat. It can create better and more predictable results, often at a lower cost and with less downtime.
- Most good candidates for neck liposuction can have the procedure performed in the office. By avoiding the operating room patients save money, save time, and reduce risk.
Know before you go
Trying to determine the best procedure to improve your neck can be confusing. Different patients will have completely different structures affecting their neckline and would be best treated with completely different procedures. We do everything possible to make your unique plan as clear and seamless as possible. After inquiring expect:
- A phone consultation with Erin, our patient care coordinator specialist. During this consultation she will learn more about you and your areas of concern. She will review your options in detail, including technique, downtime, and costs. Together you will decide if we feel like a good fit, and assuming we do, she will schedule you for an in person consultation.
- Your in person consultation will be a deep dive into neck anatomy and the different procedures possible. We will ensure you have a complete understanding of the structures affecting your neckline and will create a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs.
- We try to make scheduling your procedure a breeze. We encourage you to bring your calendar and potential dates that work well for you. A 20% fully refundable deposit is all that is needed to secure your ideal date.
- We always meet one additional time before any procedure for a pre-operative visit. We go over the post-operative course again in detail. You will be given a post-operative care kit containing everything you will need for your post-surgical care. We will take pre-operative photographs and go through all the surgical consents. We utilize this time to make sure you are 100% prepared for your surgical journey.
Post surgical course
We find that for the vast majority of our patients liposuction is an easy, in-office procedure with limited downtime. You should expect:
- The downtime is typically 5-7 days for most patients. After this time the average person should have no idea that you had anything done. Any obvious signs of surgery have resolved by this point.
- In-office liposuction is a well tolerated procedure. There is very little post-procedure discomfort for most patients. Over-the-counter pain medication like Tylenol or ibuprofen is all patients need.
- We closely follow all of our patients through their post-surgical course. Typically we see liposuction patients at 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year after surgery. During each of these visits we are carefully inspecting all aspects of the surgery and ensure the best possible results.
The best possible way to determine this is during your in-person consultation by feeling the structures in the neck. There are some hints from your story however. Usually the deeper neck structures tend to be full your entire life and oftentimes you'll see a similar structure in family members. Subcutaneous fat tends to fluctuate a bit more with weight and may not have always been there.
The incision for liposuction is extremely small and well hidden. The incision is placed beneath the chin and only about 2-3 mm in length. It is essentially imperceptible once healing is complete.
The vast majority of our liposuction patients do the procedure in the office with injection numbing medicine alone. You can drive yourself to and from the procedure as this medicine does not affect your consciousness at all. In rare circumstances we may provide a light anti-anxiety medicine for patients who are nervous for the procedure. If this is the case for you, you would need a ride after the procedure.
Liposuction is often done in combination with other procedures designed to improve the neck or jawline contour. It is often part of deep plane facelift and deep necklift procedures. It can also be done in combination with a chin implant and buccal fat excision in the office.
