A revision rhinoplasty can give a patient a second chance. Revision rhinoplasty is an opportunity to complete any missed steps and correct any complications resulting from the first surgery.
A revision rhinoplasty is a second chance, but a difficult one:
- A revision rhinoplasty gives you the opportunity to create a balanced and functional nose. We can address any incomplete parts of the original surgery while attempting to correct any imperfections resulting from the primary rhinoplasty.
- This chance at improvement is not without its challenges. Revision rhinoplasties are difficult procedures. They often take longer than the original surgery, have longer healing times, and at times have limitations as to what can be achieved.
- We aim to create the most perfect nose we can while being completely honest and transparent about limitations and any suspected difficulties with the procedure.
Before & After Gallery
Know before you go
The decision to undergo a revision rhinoplasty can be quite difficult, especially if your experience the first time around was less than ideal. Our patient experience is centered around understanding goals, reservations, and trying to create the most realistic expectations possible. Many patients will decide that a revision rhinoplasty is the best option for them, and some will not. We always want patients to proceed with the option that best fits their needs.
- After inquiring you will have a phone consultation with our patient care coordinator specialist, Erin. During that call we'll explore your concerns, past experience and have an in depth discussion of the revision rhinoplasty procedure in detail. Assuming you feel we are a good fit for you, you'll be scheduled for an in person consultation.
- During your in person consultation we'll do a deep dive into nasal anatomy and the unique challenges to the revision rhinoplasty procedure. We'll discuss technique, the post-op course, and limitations.
- During your consultation we will use a special camera and software to show you what the potential results of surgery could look like. It is helpful to be able to see the nose we envision during the consultation.
- We try to make the surgical scheduling process as easy as possible. We encourage patients to bring their calendars and have potential dates at the time of your in person consultation. Only a fully- refundable 20% deposit is all that is needed to secure your surgical date. We handle all of the payments and logistics with the surgery center an anesthesiology team.
Post Surgical Course
Revision rhinoplasty tends to have a very similar healing course to primary rhinoplasty with a couple of unique exceptions. The initial healing course is essentially the same, but final results typically take longer to fully show.
- Much like a primary rhinoplasty the initial downtime is about two weeks for most patients. By two weeks no one should be able to tell that you had anything done to the nose.
- Revision rhinoplasty does not tend to be an uncomfortable procedure. Almost all of our patients just use Tylenol and ibuprofen alone for pain control. In the rare circumstance that something stronger is necessary, we can always prescribe a light narcotic pain medication.
- We closely follow our revision rhinoplasty patients after surgery to ensure the optimal healing and results. We see patients the day after surgery as well as at 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and one year.
- The final results for a revision rhinoplasty can take 18 months to 2 years to fully show. The post surgical swelling takes longer to resolve completely because of scar tissue created during the primary rhinoplasty.
While the surgical risks between the two procedures are essentially the same, the revision rhinoplasty surgery is more difficult, and at times carries some limitations that a primary rhinoplasty does not. We will review all of the differences in detail prior to proceeding with any procedure.
The immediate post surgical downtime with each procedure is roughly the same. Almost all patients will look totally normal to the average person two weeks after surgery. The final results of a revision rhinoplasty will take longer to develop, oftentimes taking up to two years to completely heal.
The pain after surgery is very similar between a revision rhinoplasty and primary rhinoplasty. Most patients feel a soreness in the nose and can at times have nasal pressure. Most patients use Tylenol and ibuprofen for discomfort. In rare cases patients may require a prescription pain medication for a few days after the procedure.
