Understanding nasal anatomy

There are a number of different structures that contribute to the overall appearance of the nose, but it is easiest to think of it in terms of two main parts; the skin envelope and the underlying structural framework. The internal framework is made of both bone and cartilage and these components make up the size, shape, and strength of the nose. The skin creates the covering to the framework, much like a canvas over its wooden frame. The skin contributes to the overall definition and detail of the nose. The rhinoplasty procedure aims to reshape and support the underlying structural framework, while preserving and at times enhancing the overlying skin.

Know before you go

Most of our patients who are looking for a rhinoplasty have been thinking about it for their whole adult lives. We want to make every step of the process be as seamless as possible, with every detail of your experience carefully curated.

After inquiring you will have a phone consultation with our patient care coordinator specialist, Erin. During that call we'll explore your areas of concern and have an in depth discussion of the rhinoplasty procedure, the recovery process, and costs and logistics associated with the procedure. Assuming you feel we are a good fit for you, you'll be scheduled for an in person consultation.

During your in person consultation we'll do a deep dive into nasal anatomy and the rhinoplasty procedure. We'll discuss technique, the post-op course, and risks in detail.
During your consultation we will use a special camera and software to show you what the potential results of surgery could look like. It is helpful to be able to see the nose we envision during the consultation.
We try to make the surgical scheduling process as easy as possible. We encourage patients to bring their calendars and have potential dates at the time of your in person consultation. Only a fully- refundable 20% deposit is all that is needed to secure your surgical date. We handle all of the payments and logistics with the surgery center and anesthesiology team.

Post Surgical Course

We find that four the large majority of our patients the postoperative healing course is fairly easy.

Expect:

Downtime is no more than two weeks for almost all patients. By two weeks no one should be able to tell that you had anything done to the nose.
Rhinoplasty tends not to be a terribly uncomfortable procedure. Almost all of our patients just use Tylenol and ibuprofen alone for pain control. In the rare circumstance that something stronger is necessary, we can always prescribe a light narcotic pain medication.
We closely follow our rhinoplasty patients after surgery to ensure the optimal healing and results. We see patients the next day after surgery as well as at 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and one year.

When can I return to work after a rhinoplasty?

Most patients return to work after one week. Typically any residual swelling and bruising is easily covered with make-up. If you have a job which requires strenuous activity, we typically recommend waiting two weeks to return to work.

Is there a way to see what my nose could look like after rhinoplasty.

Absolutely, we use a special camera and software at the time of consultation to make 3D representations of what the nose could look like after surgery. This helps patients gauge whether a rhinoplasty is the right fit for them.

Is a rhinoplasty painful?

We find that for the vast majority of our patients rhinoplasty is not a painful recovery. Most people will feel a soreness or pressure sensation in the nose for the first few days. Most patients use over the counter Tylenol and Ibuprofen for pain control. In rare cases, a stronger prescription pain medication may be needed.

Will I still look like myself after having a rhinoplasty?

While the main goal of a rhinoplasty is to create an aesthetically beautiful nose, we always do this in a personalized fashion for each patient. We want to create a nose that fits your face beautifully, enhances all your best features, and makes you look like a more refined version of yourself.
